FCC builds first provisional bridge over the River Mersey in the United Kingdom

Ten months after having begun the works and with the last concrete slab, FCC connected the two parts that make up the first provisional platform that connects the two shores of Halton Borough Council where the company is carrying out 'The Mersey Gateway' project.

This structure marks the end of the first phase of the construction of the final bridge over the river Mersey, 54 years since the last connection between the two banks of Halton Borough Council.

This provisional bridge will provide access to the work teams and machinery so that works on the final platform can be carried out. It will also comprise a drawbridge section that will allow boats moving along the river Mersey to pass underneath.

This provisional access bridge will be dismantled when the new Mersey Bridge has been built.

The FCC-led project in Mersey represents a significantly positive impact on the region, creating more than 450 full-time jobs during the construction phase and a total of 4,640 direct and indirect jobs, which results in an annual growth of £61.9 in the GDP.
