The end result of a job that commenced in May 2015 and involved an estimated investment 1.5 million Euros was presented by civic and military authorities in the city, accompanied by representatives of FCC and architects BSA, responsible for the design of the project.

The design calls for a large, folded flat roof that alludes to the type of church with three naves as it originally existed. Two horizontal planes are then added to the flat roof to cover the apse and the northwest area. The structure, built from rolled steel, is concealed from the outside under a cover of translucent matt laminated glass, and on the inside by a suspended ceiling made with wooden slats.

Thanks to this new roof on the Monastery of San Juan, not only is the safety and protection of its architectural remains assured by also the city of Burgos has gained a new multi-purpose area of approximately 1,300 square metres.
