FCC signs contract for Magistrala regarding Line 5 of the Bucharest Metro in Romania
On 8 July, FCC Construcción signed a contract for the construction of the railway superstructure and power supply provision, architecture and facilities, including both tunnels and stations, to launch the Magistrala Metro Line 5, which comes to 223.37 million euros. It comprises a main line stretch of 6.1 km that includes 9 stations (between Raul Doamnei and Eroilor/Opera), and a connecting line of 0.9 km linking with another station/depot where additionally the line garages are located. In addition, systems integration work is to be carried out on the technical rooms of existing stations.
FCC is also undertaking the design and construction of tranche 1 of Line 5 of the Bucharest Metro, in Romania, between the stations of Raul Doamnei and Hasdeu. This includes the infrastructure civil works necessary for the execution of this stretch, which is 6.1 km long in total, the construction of nine stations, as well as the surface work necessary to restore the rail tracks affected by the execution of the work to their original state. This project consists of two parallel tunnels of 3.8 and 4.0 km, with an internal diameter of 5.7 m, and a third tunnel of 260 m to connect Lines 1 and 5 at Eroilor Station.
The tunnels are being executed using tunnel boring machines (TBM) with a diameter of 6.60 m of excavation, and will be covered with rings with segments that are 30 cm thick. The total volume to be excavated by the tunnel boring machine is in the vicinity of 260,000 m3. The stations (Raul Doamnei, Brancusi, Romancierilor, Parc Drumul Taberei, Drumul Taberei 34, Favorit, Orizont, Academia Militara and Eroilor 2), all underground and with depths between 15 and 20 m, will have two levels, except for Militara Academy, which will have three.
