FCC Industrial begins to provide public lighting services in the municipality of Arganda del Rey (Madrid)

FCC Industrial has started the concession contract for the new lighting service in Arganda del Rey. The contract was awarded to the joint venture FCC Medio Ambiente and FCC Industrial e Infraestructuras Energéticas.

The new lighting management model in Arganda del Rey will allow the municipality to save 76.95% on energy and position itself among the first and leading City Councils in Spain in complying with the 20-20-20 plan for reducing energy consumption and energy efficiency agreed by European municipalities. It will go from the current consumption of 6,382,085.66 Kwh/year to 1,469,158.59 Kwh/year, which is equivalent to not producing 2,210.66 tons of CO2 per year. In this way, Arganda del Rey will be one of the first municipalities to comply with the commitments made in the Covenant of Mayors at European level to mitigate climate change.

The investment to be executed in the first twelve months of the contract is 6,852,788.50 euros. Among the most important actions that will be carried out is the replacement of all the luminaires in the municipality with state-of-the-art LED technology with a point-to-point control system. A total of 8,553 lights will be replaced, as will all the control and regulation panels that incorporate remote control and remote measurement systems connected through a web system, which will allow the citizens of Arganda del Rey to obtain real-time information on consumption energy, CO2 emissions and incidents.

The conservation and maintenance service will be comprehensive 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, managing to intervene quickly and effectively in any incident that occurs in the facilities. Citizens will be able to report incidents and will have a customer service office at the concessionaire's facilities.

In the same way, two electric vehicle recharging points will be installed at the disposal of residents to promote the use of low-emission vehicles. Photovoltaic lights will be installed in areas that do not have public lighting, 718 poles will be replaced and numerous improvements will be made that will lead to a more efficient use of public lighting. Different awareness campaigns will also be carried out for citizens and social groups to inform about the rational use of energy.

The concessionaire will carry out the works within a maximum period of one year. The execution of this contract will allow Arganda del Rey to become one of the first Spanish municipalities to reduce its energy dependence, mitigate light pollution and certify itself as a sustainable municipality, exceeding the strictest standards set by the European Union.
