FCC Industrial completes the comprehensive reform of the power plant of the Canary Islands Air Traffic Control Center

FCC Industrial has completed the comprehensive reform of the Canary Islands Air Traffic Control Center power plant, a critical project for air traffic in the Canary Islands. The transformation of the power plant of the Canary Islands Air Traffic Control Center has been carried out into a modern power plant, adapted to the new times and equipment, providing it with greater security in the event of any failure in the electrical system that usually supplies this center. The construction process has been carried out prioritizing above all the operability of the Air Control Center, guaranteeing at all times that a “0” can be produced in the facility. Dismantling the existing installation at the same time that the new installation was put into operation, cohabiting the new and old installation in the same area of action, panel by panel, service by service. Multiple procedures have been performed for each of the transition phases.

In a first phase, the Medium Voltage installation was replaced (1250 KVA transformer, MV cabins, MV ring opening, control, general low voltage panel...). The second phase involved the replacement of the entire Low Voltage installation, having to install extra safety measures such as a 1250 KVA portable auxiliary generator set to replace all the electrical panels from the general ones (OKKEN latest generation panels and first line). The third focused on control and communications, replacing and updating the entire existing system.
