FCC Industrial starts to lay underwater, medium-voltage cable in Tarragona
FCC Industrial has started laying the underground and underwater medium voltage cable in the municipality of San Carlos de la Rapita (Tarragona) for client Endesa Distribución Eléctrica.
In April 2014, FCC Industrial was awarded the design engineering, depth or bathymetry studies, geotechnical surveys of the seabed, archaeological study, environmental impact assessment and development of the project, together with the execution of all work, both electrical, mechanical and underwater, required to lay the cable.
The project is located in the Ebro Delta Natural Park in Alfaques Bay, one of the most important natural reserves in Europe, and is budgeted at 1.5 million Euros and an execution period of 18 months.
Given the significant ecological value of the area, stringent environmental protection measures they have been implemented, which have successfully led to the impact of the work being reduced.
In this sense, it is worth highlighting the fact that the use of blowing to lay the piping has been avoided to protect the underwater environment. Likewise, an inventory of the Pinna Nobilis, a protected species of mollusk, was performed and the specimens found in the area where the new underwater cable was to be laid were moved to a new area outside the scope of the work.
