FCC and OUA Group present their corporate website on the Vallarca project

The Vallcarca Next corporate website is born, where citizens can consult the comprehensive regeneration proposal for the industrial area of Sitges, in Barcelona.

In an exercise of transparency, the website offers enough information to verify how the project aims to be an international benchmark in sustainable urban planning that respects the architectural and industrial heritage of Vallcarca, and the landscape of Parc del Garraf as a whole.

The project involves the transformation of the old cement factory and the entire area. On the other hand, although it is not part of the development sector because it is on public land of Ports de Catalunya, a conceptual project is proposed for the entire seafront in which the beach would be recovered and the port, still industrial today, would be transformed into a new port with research, training and production uses linked to the audiovisual world and electric nautical, forming with the whole complex a reference technological and audiovisual hub to the south of Barcelona. Thus, the project will go through the specialized implementation of industries linked to the audiovisual, technological and training sector, in a space designed to reside, live and grow economically.

An opportunity for sustainable integral regeneration

The regeneration of the old Vallcarca Industrial Colony aims to turn the area into a high-level technological district driven by innovation. In the image and likeness of European innovation districts (based on a mix of productive, residential, commercial uses and with cultural, educational, sports and leisure public facilities), the idea is to create along the stream, ecologically recovered, a new river park that descends from the mountain to its meeting with the sea, where a new port with productive and educational uses and a beach would be configured. Thus, the project would be naturally integrated into the landscape of the Garraf Park and both the environment and the cultural and historical heritage would be respected at all times.

The new technological hub would only occupy around 16 hectares (20% would be green areas) of the current industrial urban land, which comprises a total area of 49 hectares (20 of them dedicated to cement activity, still in operation). The remaining area would become part of the Parc del Garraf and infrastructure. And it would be the new economic motor of the region, as well as a benchmark in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona: it would mean the transformation of the area occupied by the industry into activities intensive in knowledge and innovation; it would relieve Barcelona of pressure with a new nucleus of economic activity to the south of the city, in Garraf; it would connect with the main urban centers and economic activity with a new residential space; and it would promote identity and a sense of belonging by enhancing the natural environment, the industrial heritage and the memory of the place.

In short, we are talking about a new production model (based on the knowledge and innovation economy) that develops an urban and sustainable prototype based on the ecological transition. Everything, with the aim of achieving a world-class innovation district.
