Future Valleys, a company linked to Wales

The Future Valleys consortium continues to develop social and environmental projects in Wales. The partner is designing and building a highway between Hirwaun and Dowlais, in south Wales. As an example of the different social projects it implements, it has recently been working with Hirwaun Primary School to help them implement the Forest Schools Programme. This is an inspiring, child-centered learning process that develops confidence and self-esteem through hands-on, student-inspired experiences in a natural environment.

To achieve this, we planted about 120 new trees and a 10-meter-long willow tunnel. At the school, materials including stones have been recycled to make a new “rocky path”. One of our subcontractors, GT Jones Contracting Ltd donated all the materials needed to carry out the project, including wood chips, wooden edging for the path, cut logs for the seating and pergola.

This was a major team supported by TACP Environmental that developed the plan for the Woodland Garden Project. MJ Church and Arcadis (his Cardiff Rail team) provided volunteers who joined the Future Valleys Construction team to work on the project.

The new space is now ready for students to enjoy using it. We hope that over time, as the trees and willows grow, your woodland garden will become a truly lovely learning environment.
