GNL Quintero launches expansion of the LNG terminal built by FCC Industrial
GNL Quintero inaugurated the expansion of the LNG terminal at their regasification plant, carried out entirely by FCC Industrial. The launch took place in a ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Energy, Máximo Pachego; the General Manager of GNL Quintero, Antonio Bacigalupo, among other guests.
The facilities include a new vaporiser that increases the capacity for injection of natural gas into the network by 50%.
The new infrastructure improves the energy matrix and guarantees the supply of a future demand of natural gas in Chile.
This new infrastructure, which took 17 months to execute, enables a 50% increase in the terminal's capacity to inject natural gas into the pipelines network, thereby reaching 15 million m3/day. It also doubles the LNG load capacity to tank trucks, reaching 2,500 m3/day. This increase involved an investment of US$ 30 million.
With this infrastructure FCC Industrial helps to improve the capacity of the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in terms of reception, offloading, storage and regasification. The terminal currently supplies natural gas to the centre of Chile, including 600,000 residential/commercial customers, 400 industries, 2 refineries and 9 electric power plants. GNL Quintero has therefore become the first LNG terminal of the Southern Hemisphere.
