Level of progress on Castrovido dam
The FCC-led project on the Castrovido dam in the province of Burgos for the Duero Hydrographic Confederation currently stands at 74% complete.
This project aims to regulate the river Arlanza, a tributary of the Pisuerga, by means of building a dam that generates a reservoir.
The reservoir is located in the municipal area of Salas de los Infantes (Burgos), has a capacity of 44 cubic hectometres, covers a surface of 214 hectares and its maximum normal level is 1,032 metres above sea level.
The FCC-led project also aims to guarantee a fresh water supply and ecological flow, to supply enough water to irrigate 6,010 hectares and to generate electric power with the construction of a hydroelectric plant which will produce an average of 15.23 GWh per year.
The concreting of the main dam's body is currently being carried out, which involves formwork tasks, descaling the cast concrete surface, scaffolding, PVC gaskets, reinforcement, auscultation equipment and construction of the dam's internal galleries.
The concrete is manufactured in the FCC Construcción facilities which are located at the same dam. The concrete is positioned on site using cable cranes and earth moving equipment (bulldozers and backhoes).
The aggregate used to make the concrete is also extracted and processed on site thanks to the company's own facilities.
Electromechanical equipment for the dam is also in the process of being assembled, such as sluices, valves and overhead cranes.
The latest progress to be made has been the start of draining works on the stilling basin so that foundations can subsequently be laid. The team expects to begin the installation of micropiles for the dam's foundations in a short space of time.
