The FCC-built regional motorway EX-A1 connecting Navalmoral de la Mata to Portugal has been opened for traffic
On 20 March, the President of the Extremaduran Regional Administration, José Antonio Monago, inaugurated the regional motorway EX-A1 connecting Navalmoral de la Mata to Portugal, between Coria and East Moraleja, stretching 5 kilometres in length and connecting the Extremaduran towns of El Batán and Coria. Attending the ceremony on behalf of FCC were: Antonio García-Zarandieta, Director of Iberian Peninsula and Algeria; José Antonio Madrazo, Director of the south region; and Ángel Serrano, from the civil works centre.
The section, which runs parallel to the EX-108, is made of a 10,600-metre trunk road, 7,689 metres of branches and 11,300 metres of service roads. Two dumbbell interchanges were built: one in Coria and the other to the east of the district, both with an overpass to the Motorway and with one S-bend road.
Additionally, 4 passes were constructed using 2-span hyperstatic structures with lengths varying between 27 and 33 m per span. They were all built on site using lightweight and post-stressed concrete slabs whose sections varied between 9.08 and 13.08 m.
In a structural context, the construction of 3 viaducts must be noted: the Arroyo Grande viaduct spanning 130 m in length, the 175 m-long Arroyo del Salto and the 30 m-long structure in Valderrey.
This motorway represents an important axis in the integration of the Extremaduran region. It runs along the north of the Province of Cáceres from east to west, and its final route will not only connect the most northern cities of the region, such as Navalmoral de la Mata, Plasencia, Coria and Moraleja, but will also facilitate the opening of a new corridor that will connect Portugal with Madrid with the south-east A5 motorway.
