The Minister of Public Works visits the Almonte viaduct in Cáceres to check the progress of the works
The Minister of Public Works, Ana Pastor, along with the Secretary of State, the Government representative and the Minister of Transport of the Regional Government of Extremadura, visited the Almonte viaduct (Cáceres) on 28 July to check the progress of the works. In attendance on behalf of FCC were Ricardo Gil, director of Transport, Pedro Cavero, transport manager and David Carnero, site manager.
The Almonte viaduct, located in the Alcántara-Garrovillas reservoir section, stretches for 6.3 km and runs through the towns of Garrovillas de Alconétar and Santiago del Campo and, once finished, will be a point of reference for high speed in Spain and internationally due to its characteristics and size, besides becoming the arch with the largest span in the world made of this type of concrete for high-speed railway use.
During the visit, Pastor confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Public Works with the High-Speed Line Madrid-Extremadura-Portuguese border and pointed out that the works being carried out have the immediate objective of putting a quality means of transport at the disposal of the people of Extremadura which connects Madrid and Badajoz in 3 hours and 35 minutes, as well as reducing the current journey time between both capital cities (with stops in Talavera de la Reina and Cáceres) by 1 hour and 35 minutes.
Likewise, the journey time between Madrid and Cáceres will be reduced to 2 hours and 39 minutes, which represents a saving of around 50 minutes. The journey time between Madrid and Mérida will be 3 hours and 14 minutes, which will mean cutting the journey time by approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
