Six FCC CO pilot works are chosen for the new cost control methodology

This week the Control Unit met with the managers of the six pilot works selected. While the tool is still being programmed, these works teams, who will be the first to test it, are going to get ready by studying the new operational cost control methodology in depth.

Six FCC CO pilot works are chosen for the new cost control methodology

The six pilot works selected will be the first to test the new cost control tool when programming, which is already underway, is finished:

  • North zone: Section of the motorway of the Vallirana turnoff (Barcelona), the San Claudio water treatment plant (Asturias).
  • South zone: "Montealiso" housing (Madrid)
  • Portugal / Matinsa: Road maintenance (Setúbal)
  • Transport: the AVE platform between Arroyo de la Charca and Grimaldo (Caceres)
  • Industrial: Installation of FCC Industrial networks (Madrid)

These are works fully carried out by FCC or managed joint ventures. The corresponding pilot works will be selected further down the line to test the remaining cases.

Vicente Mohedano, General Manager of FCC Construcción, was present at the information day and highlighted the role that the chosen pilot works are going to play in the development of the tool and how they will contribute to the accuracy of the information on the aforementioned.

As was transmitted during the Information Day, the pilot works team, including the Control Unit, aims to implement the control methodology for 100% of the direct operational costs starting from and including May.

The key actions in order to fulfil this objective are:

  • Draw up a practical catalogue of operations, in other words, detailed enough to control costs but, at the same time, with a feasible number of operations allowing for correct allocation of resources for the works.
  • Involve the work team: foremen, production managers and heads of administration.
  • Carry out cost allocations with due rigour.

After performing the last task correctly, the pilot works will be able to see a monthly report on the actual costs where the actual unit costs are compared with the estimated unit costs of each operation. This information is very valuable both for acting on our works and for gathering company knowledge and having our own cost references that can be used in future bids.

Once the tool is available, the pilot works teams will receive specific training on how to use it and will be the first ones to use it and check that it works correctly.

When the trial phase for the pilot works is over, it will then start to be rolled out in the rest of the equivalent works (works carried out by FCC and managed joint ventures).

Since November 2014, the Control Unit has explained the methodology of operational cost control to nearly 400 people from practically all areas of FCC Construcción.. The cost control software tool is currently in the advanced stages and programming has already begun.
