Sotra Link begins the detonation of the Drotningsvik tunnel in Bergen (Norway)

Sotra Link begins the detonation of the Drotningsvik tunnel in Bergen (Norway), which will be the longest tunnel in the project.

The tunnel will be 1,950 meters long with two lanes in each direction. It will have two entrances to and from Bergen in Drotningsvik. These accesses will be on Stiavatnet. Inside the tunnel there will be a lane for pedestrians and cyclists separated from vehicle traffic.

More than 500,000 cubic meters of material will be extracted and complete blasting will be completed in the first half of 2026. This is the largest road infrastructure contract in Norwegian history and one of the largest contracts awarded in Europe in 2021.

The project aims to improve travel between Bergen and the island of Sotra on the west coast. The construction includes the construction of two twin tunnels of 4.6 kilometers in length and a four-lane bridge of about 900 meters. The new road system will have a space dedicated to public transportation, as well as access for pedestrians and bicycles. In addition, the project includes the construction of three smaller bridges.

This is the largest and most complex road infrastructure project developed by the Government of Norway within its National Transportation Plan 2018-2029.
