The construction project of the new Penitentiary Center in the Free Trade Zone, carried out by FCC Construcción, has received a visit from the Minister of Justice of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

The new penitentiary project will have 800 places for inmates in semi-freedom. The new facilities for inmates in semi-freedom will occupy a plot of 6,500 square meters. The center will serve to definitively close the old Trinitat Vella prison in Barcelona, which now houses third-degree convicts, and who will go to the new center in the Zona Franca, as well as the inmates of the open men's unit that now operates in the building. from the Barcelona Women's Prison (Wad-Ras). Between the two open centers there are about 600 places.

FCC Construcción has strong experience in the design and execution of unique infrastructures, such as penitentiary centers. In Belgium, one of the largest prisons in Europe, Haren Prison, has recently been completed.
