The Environmental Recycling Complex 'La Campiña', executed by FCC Construcción, awarded as Best Municipal Work at the 2021 Caminos Awards

The comprehensive 'La Campiña' Environmental Recycling Complex, executed by FCC Construcción, has received the award for Best Municipal Work at the Caminos 2021 Awards of the Madrid Demarcation of the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports . The delivery ceremony took place on February 18 at the Royal Post Office, headquarters of the Community of Madrid. Javier Rodríguez Palacios, president of the Commonwealth of the East and mayor of Alcalá de Henares, and Luis Sanz Jiménez, director of the Complex and coordinator of the ECOMESA Project, received the award from Mariano Fuentes, Delegate of the Urban Development Area of the City Council of Madrid.

This recognition, given within the framework of the 14th edition of the Caminos Madrid Awards, rewards sustainability and the development of projects that contribute to improving the quality of life in the area and respect for the environment at the municipal level.

Ecoparque Mancomunidad de Este SA, has been the company in charge of the design, development, construction and commissioning of the complex, and carries out the operation of the facilities. For its part, FCC Construcción has executed the complex's civil works project in record time. This project is a clear example of the business and customer service synergies that are generated between the different areas of activity of the FCC Group, which has made it possible to optimally adapt the project to the needs of the Commonwealth of the East.

The CMR 'La Campiña', located in the municipality of Loeches, to the east of the Community of Madrid, extends over a 60-hectare plot of land and serves the more than 735,000 inhabitants of the 31 municipalities that make up the Commonwealth of the East. The entry into service of the complex, on April 1, 2021, will make it possible to avoid the annual emission of 90,000 tons of CO2, give a definitive boost to the Circular Economy model in the Community of Madrid and meet the demanding recycling and waste diversion objectives. landfill of the European Union.

The facilities have been designed to manage five different treatment lines: rest fraction, packaging, commercial, bulky and vegetables, with an initial nominal processing capacity of 270,000 tons per year. The complex incorporates the latest technology in waste recovery, such as the use of automated lines or more than 25 optical separators and robots with artificial vision that replace manual sorting. This makes it the most innovative and avant-garde waste recovery facility in Europe, and it is also the first comprehensive environmental recycling complex built in the Community of Madrid and the pioneer in fully complying with the Regional Waste Management Plan.

It also has an air capture and regulation system that runs through the facilities, subject to controls that ensure optimum quality, leading to five independent heather biofilters with a capacity of 600,000 Nm3/h. This network ensures that bad odors are avoided in the installation and that only clean air is emitted into the atmosphere. In order to optimize energy consumption, a photovoltaic installation has been installed that will cover a significant part of the electrical needs required by the Loeches CMR.
