El consorcio Línea 2 de Metro Lima alcanza un hito importante en el proyecto: cale de la tuneladora “Delia” en la estación E-18

The Line 2 consortium of the Lima Metro reaches an important milestone in the project: finish of the “Delia” tunnel boring machine at station E-18. The "Delia" tunnel boring machine began its excavation at station E-19: San Juan de Dios in the direction of Callao and, after traveling the first 720 meters of tunnel, has reached station E-18: Circunvalación, in the district of San Luis, perforating the screen-type wall located transversely to the axis of the tunnel, materializing the opening in the station. The act was presided over by the President of the Republic of Peru and the Minister of the MTC, accompanied by the Presidents of ATU and OSITRAN.

The project consists of the construction of 35 underground metro stations linked along 35 kilometers of tunnels. Line 2 will be almost 27 kilometers long and will cover the East-West axis of Lima from Ate to Callao. Once in operation, its 27 passenger stations will serve more than 600,000 people a day.

For its part, the branch of line 4 that will connect the Peruvian capital with the airport will run along eight kilometers of tunnel, from Faucett to Néstor Gambetta avenues. Eight stations will be built along this route.

In addition, the contract includes the execution of the superstructure, the supply of rolling stock, the implementation of the electromechanical equipment, the railway systems and the electrical supply, necessary for the operation of the metro.

The choice of an underground transport system will allow a lesser impact on the life of the city, in addition to a true urban transformation since many surface areas where the new Metro will run will be converted into green areas.

Riders will save up to 90 minutes on their ride. Currently it takes two hours and twenty minutes to cover that journey by car.
