The Mayor of Murcia celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Murcia Tram
To mark the 15th anniversary of the Murcia Tram, the city’s mayor, Rebeca Pérez, unveiled the specially branded tram at the Nueva Condomina stop. This tram, featuring a skyline of the city, incorporates images of the municipality’s most iconic areas, and serves as a reminder that the Murcia Tram is a public transport system for both the present and the future.
Rebeca Pérez highlighted the benefits of our transport system, emphasising users’ perception of the tram, as over 98% of those surveyed in our annual satisfaction survey consider the tram to be one of the city’s main modes of transport. She also took the opportunity to announce the award of the contract for the technical study required to carry out the tram extension.
On 28 May 2011, Tranvía de Murcia began operating in the city of Murcia. Since then, more than 80 million journeys have shown that it is the public transport mode preferred by the public, due to its punctuality, regularity, efficiency, accessibility and comfort. Over the past fifteen years, Tranvía de Murcia has covered more than 12 million kilometres, enough for fifteen return trips to the Moon, as illustrated in the special comic book designed to mark the anniversary.
Environmental sustainability is another commitment of Tranvía de Murcia. Over these fifteen years, the emission of more than 65,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere has been avoided, equivalent to planting a million trees and letting them grow for 10 years. Every little gesture counts, and when someone chooses to use the tram, they contribute to the environmental improvement of the whole city, not just the area served by Tranvía de Murcia.
We at Tranvía de Murcia would like to thank everyone who uses our service to get around, as by doing so they recognise the work of a whole team of staff who have been carrying out their duties for fifteen years with a commitment to the city.
