The "Plaza España Reform" project (Madrid), carried out by FCC Construcción, has been awarded the "Best Public Works of 2022" award by the Madrid Branch of the College of Civil Engineers, in its 15th edition.

These awards are a recognition of road, canal and port engineers, whose work is decisive in economic and social development, and of the projects that modernize and make the city of Madrid and its community more sustainable.

The reform of Plaza de España and its surroundings constitutes the largest regeneration project urban development developed in Europe in recent years. Among the objectives achieved, they have highlighted recovering the square as a place to stay, civic and active, and reducing motorized road traffic and increasing pedestrian spaces. In addition, the project has connected the green areas of the Plaza de España with the Plaza de Oriente, the Sabatini Gardens, the Parque del Oeste and the Temple of Debod, as well as with Madrid Río.

On behalf of the professionals who have participated in this major project carried out by FCC Construcción, Catalina Bennaceur and José Luis Infanzón, from the Madrid City Council, received the award from Fernando Porras, from project management, Carlos Martínez, from FCC Construcción and Pedro Arozamena, from technical assistance.
