The Vice Mayor of Madrid inaugurates the Mirador de Montecarmelo, executed by FCC Construcción
The Vice Mayor of Madrid has the Mirador de Montecarmelo a work that connects the neighbors of the neighborhood with Paco metro station of Lucia.
The project executed by FCC Construction, join the avenue of the Silos Monastery and the Monasterio del Paular street and facilitates access to the Cercanías-Renfe station and metro of Paco de Lucía, thus reducing the use of private vehicles by facilitating access to the public transport.
In the words of the Vice Mayor, “this viewpoint is finally a reality and it was very necessary because it solves one of the problems that had been dragging the most of 17,000 inhabitants of the Montecarmelo neighborhood ”, which was the bad communication with the metro station since it opened in 2015. Being located in the southwest of the area, behind the superblock delimited by the streets Monasterio del Paular, Monasterio de las Huelgas and Monasterio de Silos avenue, forced many of the users to have to travel more than 1.5 kilometers to access the station, which encouraged the use of private vehicles. This situation was going to be aggravated, in addition, for the construction of the Montecarmelo Institute of Secondary Education, with more than 1,000 students who will have to access through Monasterio del Paular street.
El Mirador de Montecarmelo is another of the renatured plots within the strategy ‘Madrid, island of color’ which aims to fight against pollution and climate change and improve the quality of life of neighbors. Renaturation of parcels is one of the three pillars on which the ‘Madrid, island of color ’-together with the Metropolitan Forest and producing neighborhoods-. The goal is to change the traditional definition that conceives Madrid as a heat island to turn it into an island of color, greener, with spaces that contribute to fight against change climate and improve the quality of life of citizens.
