Security alert for all FCC information technology users
We inform you that we have detected a significant increase in the number of external e-mail sent to FCC users containing web links or attachments that automatically encrypts the information in your computer.
• If this occurs, there is no technical alternative but to pay a ransom to the “HACKER” to release the hard disk drive.
• Some of our colleagues have already been blackmailed using this scheme.
It is IMPORTANT to follow these actions:
1. In general, do not open any e-mail from unusual or doubtful senders. This e-mails must be immediately deleted from the Outlook Inbox and the garbage folder must be emptied.
2. Suspect in all cases of any e-mail sent even with the format of a formal company, maybe including real logos (ie. Bank, Post Office, Courier company, …) that requests you to click on a link or download a file.
3. If the user receives an action message, the rightful origin of the request must be checked beyond any doubt.
4. In case of doubt, we recommend to contact your local IT support to request instructions on how to proceed. This also allows us to gather information about the practices of this technology criminals.
5. If you have executed an action in your PC and you detect anomalous behavior, shut down the equipment as soon as possible and call your IT support for help.
