Carlos M. Jarque visits the works on the Wanda Metropolitano stadium
Carlos M. Jarque, the CEO of FCC Group, has paid a visit to the works underway on Atlético Madrid’s new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano. The CEO was accompanied by the project managers during his tour.
The focus of Jarque's visit was to see how the works were progressing on the future stadium, which is being constructed by FCC and was designed by the architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz. The sports facility will cover a total surface area of 145,721 m2, and a 67,000 seating capacity, distributed throughout the stands, boxes and VIP areas. It will also provide over 4,000 parking spaces for fans.
Carlos M. Jarque said: “In undertaking this kind of project, FCC demonstrates its technical and human capacity to overcome major challenges and obstacles. Combining efficiency, innovation and the use of modern technology is a guarantee of success, and it is an approach that has helped us to become a reference in the construction of sports facilities. He also touched on the importance of ensuring that the agreed project deadlines are met.
The task of hoisting the stadium roof, which will shelter the stands and help protect 96% of seats from rain, has been undertaken throughout January and February.
Following the completion of the preliminary work for raising the interior traction ring, the main raising work will commence this week. Once completed, the membrane will be put into place, which comprises a steel structure weighing around 6,336 tonnes, tensioned with radial cables bound by a membrane that covers a surface area of 83,053 m2.
The modern roof is a unique part of the stadium that stands out from other European sports facilities designed in recent years.
