Five finalists chosen in the 3rd edition of the Eco-Efficiency Awards

Entries for the 3rd edition of the Eco-Efficiency Awards closed on 31 January. This year there has been notable participation by international candidates from Austria, Hungary, and the US, among other countries. For the first time, some entries combined expertise and synergies across different areas of the company.

The Technical Committee, comprised of experts in the various business areas, completed an initial assessment of the entries and selected the following five projects as finalists.

  • Mentality Water App, presented by Bernabé Hinojosa, of Aqualia.
  • S.E.D.R.U.S. Platform (Sharing Environmental Data to Reflect Urban Sustainability), presented by Catherine Milhau, Patricia Ana Serrano, Isabel Mañeru, Elena Minguez, Susana Cea and Gabriel Morales, of FCC Environment, and Jaime Ramón Quintilla, of FCC.
  • Combining photovoltaic and solar thermal power generation for our buildings, presented by Maria Herrando Zapater, of FCC Energy.
  • Manufacture of aggregate by recycling steel mill slag, presented by Enrique Cordero, Carlos Martín and Roberto Rivero of FCC Ámbito.
  • Reuse of demolition waste, presented by Alberto Pradillo and Miguel Hernandez of FCC Construction.

These projects will be analysed by a jury comprising top executives from FCC's business areas and corporate departments, who will meet in April to select and announce the winners.

We would like to thank all participants for their interest and enthusiasm. This year's participation exceeded our expectations, and candidates have sent thoughtful, high-quality proposals which evidence a notable interest in sustainable development, natural resource optimisation, and the use of new technologies to benefit the environment. We wish everyone the best of luck.

The awards were created to promote eco-efficiency and the goal is that they should become a distinctive feature of the company. This edition includes a new concept which goes hand-in-hand with the awards and summarizes the objective of this FCC initiative. "Ideas that change the world" seeks to encourage all employees to participate and to be aware that their ideas and initiatives can make the world a better place.
