Emilio Hermida lectures at Nuestra Casa Retirement Home
Emilio Hermida, Corporate Manager of Human Resources (employee services) at FCC, gave a presentation about his home town of Aranjuez as part of the Friday lecture series.
The award for the "Best idea/project which improves the lives of citizens" went to Manuel Fernández, Miguel Ángel Ramirez, Ignacio Báñez and Antonio Benítez, from Conservación y Sistemas, for their project "Automatic traffic restriction system to improve air quality in Madrid".
The award for the "Best idea/project which improves the company's results" went to Álvaro Marzo Ruiz, from FCC Construction's Madrid Building II office, for the initiative “Project to design an eco-efficient fair booth”. The winner in each category received an all-expense-paid trip for two to New York City.
At the ceremony, which was also attended by the Chairmen of the business areas and the company's General Managers, honourable mentions were presented to the project submitted by Justin Curlee, Zac Sanders, Andrea Rodríguez and Álvaro Ruiz, from FCC Environmental, entitled "Oil and gas drilling flowback water recycling solution," and to Jiri Karpeta, from SmVak, in Ostrava (Czech Republic), for the project "Leveraging the energy potential of metallurgical industry wastewater in a sewage treatment plant."
All of the entries in this second edition of the Eco-Efficiency Awards were evaluated by a technical committee comprising members of FCC Group's Innovation Committee. After an initial evaluation, the committee chose 11 finalists. A jury comprising the CEOs of the various business areas selected the winners. All finalists received certificates of participation.
One of FCC's priorities is to make eco-efficiency a distinctive feature of the company's identity. These awards aim to recognise ideas and actions proposed by employees of FCC, the Citizen Services Group, from all over the world.
There was more team participation in this second edition. A total of 70 initiatives from 120 participants worldwide were submitted. The initiatives focus on sustainable development, appropriate natural resource use, and the application of new technologies with a positive impact on the environment.
