Esther Koplowitz named President of Madrid Vivo Foundation
The Board of Trustees of the Madrid Vivo Foundation has appointed Esther Koplowitz as President of the institution to occupy the vacancy left by the passing of Iñigo de Oriol.
At the same meeting, the Board of Trustees appointed Emilio Botín, Chairman of Banco Santander, and Juan Miguel Villar Mir, Chairman of OHL, as Vice-Presidents of the Foundation. Javier Cremades, attorney at law, continues as General Secretary.
The Board of Trustees also decided on the Foundation's new projects for the coming years, focusing on its three main areas of action, defined in 2011.
As regards university education, the Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with the San Dámaso Theological University, the only educational centre outside Italy where classes are given in Spanish, as specified by the Foundation.
As regards society, the organisation supports large families through several initiatives, including the presentation of an annual award for institutions that defend the interests of large families; the organisation of the First National Meeting for Large Families, in cooperation with the Spanish Federation of Large Families (FEFN); the publication of a barometer report in the situation of families; and other actions which highlight large families' social contribution.
As regards culture, the Madrid Vivo Foundation is preparing an exhibition on the church's role in society and its contribution in terms of knowledge, culture, and aid for the most disadvantaged groups. The inauguration is planned for autumn of 2014.
The Board of Trustees meeting was held at the Archbishop of Madrid's residence and chaired by Cardinal Rouco Varela, Honorary Chairman of the Foundation. Other trustees in attendance included Ángel Ron, Chairman of Banco Popular, and David Álvarez Díez, Chairman of Grupo Eulen.
