FCC wins 2012 Aragonés Award

FCC has received the 2012 Aragonés Award for Business Strength, presented annually by El Periódico de Aragón newspaper and based on readers' votes. Manual Liebana, head of FCC Environment in Aragón, collected the award. Liebana highlighted the main goal of FCC services as increasing cities' sustainability.

FCC has been providing waste collection services in Zaragoza since 1941, where every day it collects more than 600 tonnes of waste, cleans over 5,000 metres of sewers and maintains around 500 hectares of green areas. In addition to managing services in Aragón's three provincial capitals, the company also operates in other cities in the region, including Jaca, Tarazona, and Calatayud, where close to 2,000 FCC employees serve the region's almost one million inhabitants.

El Periódico de Aragón readers also recognised the Tarazona cathedral refurbishment with the Aragonés of the Year award, and Carlos Carnicer, President of the General Council of the Spanish Bar Association, with the Honorary Aragonés award. Other winners this year included ATADES, in the Human Values category; film director Paula Ortiz, in Culture; footballer Ander Herrera, in Sport; and the Don Bosco Technical Institute, in Science and Technology.
