FCC's electric waste collection truck wins award
FCC, the Citizen Services Group, has been distinguished in the Large Sustainable Company category for its electric waste collection truck at the Innovation + Sustainability + Network Awards, organised by business newspaper Expansión.
Juan Béjar, Vice-Chairman and CEO of FCC, collected the award from Miguel Arias Cañete, Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Environment. Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz, a member of the Board of Directors of FCC and Vice-Chairman of Cementos Portland Valderrivas, also attended the event.
Juan Béjar: "Innovation is an essential vector for competitiveness and it is vital at a time like the present, when the Spanish economy needs a boost". Béjar paid tribute to FCC engineers, who have more than a century's worth of experience in waste collection, and noted that there are currently more than 300 vehicles operating in Spanish cities, including Madrid and Barcelona. The development of this model, which produces zero emissions (thereby reducing employee stress and work-related accidents), is beneficial for FCC and provides it with a competitive advantage over its rivals: a profitable, proprietary technology which has low energy consumption and enables it to offer clients an alternative to conventional fuels when participating in tenders.
These awards recognise innovation by companies in product and service design as part of their process to integrate into a more sustainable society.
