FCC inaugurates new waste management centres in the United Kingdom
Waste Recycling Group (WRG), FCC’s UK waste management subsidiary, in cooperation with the borough councils of Bracknell Forest, Reading y Wokingham (the re3 partnership), have inaugurated two waste treatment plants that cost 33 million euro.
The Smallmead (Reading) park contains a household waste recycling centre, a materials recycling facility and a waste transfer station and is completed with the opening of a new visitor education centre. The plant is designed to process 200,000 tons of waste from the three municipalities each year.
As part of a policy of transparency and awareness-raising, the household waste recycling centre is being used by 6,000 residents per week and over 2,000 schoolchildren per year, and local community groups are expected to use the education centre to learn about reducing waste and recycling.
A second waste management park is due to open at Longshot Lane in Bracknell on 13 July, following a major redevelopment of the old civic amenity site. This will include another household waste recycling centre, plus a visitor education centre and waste transfer station.
The re3 partnership was set up to improve infrastructure and installations so as to increase the level of reuse, recycling and composting and minimise the amount of waste sent to landfills.
