FCC obtained 2.887 billion euro in urban sanitation contracts in Spain in 2008

FCC has been providing these services since 1911, when Barcelona awarded the company the contract to maintain the city's sewers, a service it still provides today, almost a century later, after winning successive public tenders.

FCC provides these services in 3,597 of Spain's 8,100 municipalities, where it billed 1.657 billion euro in 2008, compared with 1.565 billion euro in 2007. The company serves 27 million people.

FCC's backlog in this area has expanded steadily and now amounts to 8.926 billion euro, i.e. 21.7% more than at 2007 year-end and equivalent to 70 months' work.

The main contracts awarded in 2008 were:

  • Municipal waste collection and street cleaning in Barcelona city centre until 2017. The backlog amounts to 797.48 million euro. FCC has been providing these services in Barcelona since 1915.
  • Municipal waste collection and street cleaning in Zaragoza until 2020. The backlog amounts to 736 million euro. FCC has been providing the city with this service since 1940.
  • Twenty-four-year contract for municipal waste treatment for the Madrid region's Eastern Federation of Municipalities. This backlog amounts to 694 million euro.
  • Ten-year contract for municipal waste collection and street cleaning in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid). The backlog amounts to 120 million euro.
