Such activities aim to improve the quality of life of those affected by Down syndrome as well as other intellectual disorders, in order to achieve their full social and employment integration.

The event, which took place at FCC’s headquarters in Madrid, was attended by representatives of both entities and the agreement was signed by Luis Suarez, Director of Human Resources at FCC Environment, and Elena Escalona, Managing Director of Down Madrid.

Luis Suarez highlighted that companies have a great responsibility when it comes to achieving a correct integration of the differently abled into society. He also pointed out that not only does FCC comply with the Social Integration Law for the Disabled – which is part of the General Law on Disabilities –; it even goes as far as largely exceeding the 2% quota. After his speech, a short video was shown regarding the work carried out by FCC in this respect. The video featured physically or mentally disabled workers flawlessly carrying out their duties as part of a team.

Elena Escalona, on her part, was impressed with the actual commitment shown by the Company in terms of integrating those with special needs into its teams. She stressed that this was the first agreement of this kind that the Foundation has ever struck with a company listed on Ibex35.

The Agreement aims to instate subscribers of the Stela de Down Madrid employment service into FCC’s staff; to collaborate with FCC in training participants of the Down Madrid Employment Training programmes; and to organise educational training schemes within the Environmental Department of the Citizen Services Group for participants of the Down Madrid Employment Training programmes.
