FCC and the newspaper Levante organise the third in the season of talks ‘New Times for Environmental Management
FCC Medio Ambiente, in partnership with the newspaper Levante, have organised the third day of the four-day season of talks on ‘New Times for Environmental Management’. The purpose of the talks is to publicise the latest policy developments in this field in the Valencia Region and to build bridges with regional public institutions. The event, which was held at the headquarters of the Bancaja Foundation, focused on studying weaknesses and opportunities for waste-handling consortia.
Jordi Payet, FCC Medio Ambiente’s managing director, opened the proceedings with a speech in which he stressed FCC’s significant role in the Valencia Region. He also reviewed the company’s key milestones, highlighting the opening of the region’s first waste-treatment plant in 1970.
Payet highlighted the need to consolidate partnerships between public institutions and private enterprise to provide public services. “Eighty percent of people will be living in cities by 2050, so public–private partnership will be fundamental if high-quality services are to be provided,” he said.
Also during the day’s events, Pilar Soriano, chair of the Metropolitan Waste Treatment Entity in Valencia, announced that the fifth waste container, which is brown in colour, will be launched on 14 November in various parts of the city of Valencia, with plans to extend the scheme to the rest of the city and also Alicante next year. With this pilot project, FCC Medio Ambiente will collect organic waste for it to be treated separately to turn it into high-quality compost for nursery and crop use.
The season of talks will conclude with the fourth session, to be held in November, on the topic ‘How to Improve Environmental Management as We Move Towards the 22nd Century’.
