Winners of the second Eco-efficiency Awards

Over 70 projects were presented by 120 employees in this second edition of the Eco-efficiency Awards, which aim to recognise FCC employee initiatives and actions that contribute to sustainable development, appropriate natural resource use, and the application of new technologies with a positive impact on the environment.

The jury was composed of José Mayor Oreja, chairman of FCC Construction; José Luis de la Torre Sánchez, chairman of FCC Services and FCC Versia; Eduardo González Gómez, general manager of FCC Energy; Antonio Gómez Ciria, general manager of Administration and IT; Francisco Martín Monteagudo, general manager of Human Resources; José Manuel Velasco Guardado, general manager of Communication and Corporate Responsibility; and Enrique Unamunzaga, director of Innovation, acting as Secretary.

The jury, which conducted a detailed analysis of the short list of candidates pre-selected by a technical committee drawn from FCC's Innovation Committee, has named the following winners in the second Eco-efficiency Awards:

  • Manuel Fernández, Miguel Ángel Ramirez, Ignacio Báñez and Antonio Benitez, from Conservación y Sistemas, S.A., in the category of eco-efficient idea/project which improves the lives of citizens, for the initiative “Automatic traffic restriction system to improve air quality in Madrid."
  • Álvaro Marzo Ruiz, from FCC Construction's Madrid Building II office, in the category of eco-efficient idea/project that improves the company's results, for the initiative “Project to design an eco-efficient fair booth.”

The jury also awarded the following honourable mentions: Justin Curlee, Zac Sanders, Andrea Rodríguez and Álvaro Ruiz, from FCC Enviromental, in Houston (USA): "FCC Environmental oil and gas drilling flowback water recycling solution;" and Jiri Karpeta, from SmVak, in Ostrava (Czech Republic): "Leveraging the energy potential of metallurgical industry wastewater in a sewage treatment plant."

The award ceremony will be held on 6 March at Torre Picasso and will be presided over by FCC Chairman and CEO, Baldomero Falcones.
