Gonzalo Anes, re-elected Director of Spain's Royal Academy of History for the fifth time

Asturias-born historian Gonzalo Anes y Álvarez de Castrillón has been re-elected Director of Spain's Royal Academy of History by unanimous vote.

Anes, who holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Madrid, is a member of the Board of Directors of FCC, chairs its Audit and Control Committee and is a member of its Appointments and Remuneration Committee. He is a Professor of History and Economic Institutions in the Faculty of Economics at the Complutense University of Madrid. Anes is a numerary member of the Royal Academy of History and has been its Director since 1998. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum since 1982, of which he was Chairman from 1986 to 1990. He was awarded the National History Prize in 1995 for El Siglo de las Luces. He is also a former director of the Bank of Spain and Repsol-YPF.

In April 2010, Gonzalo Anes was invested Marquess of Castrillón by King Juan Carlos I in recognition of his brilliant extensive career in the academy, research and teaching.
