Dr Lopez-Ibor speaks about cancer at Nuestra Casa retirement home

The Friday lecture series at Nuestra Casa retirement home in Villaba (Madrid), which is organised by FCC volunteers and the Esther Koplowitz Foundation, recently hosted Dr Cristina López-Ibor Alcocer, a specialist in family and community medicine and head of the programme department of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC)
Dr Lopez-Ibor speaks about cancer at Nuestra Casa retirement home

Dr López-Ibor coordinates programmes on prevention, health education, early diagnosis, psycho-oncology and similar programmes, social work, lymphoedema and laryngectomy rehabilitation, and palliative care.

She offered an interesting slide presentation, explaining cancer and recommendable preventive measures. Prevention and early diagnosis, she noted, are key to overcoming this illness. A healthy diet, reduced alcoholic consumption, and only moderate exposure to the sun (always with high-factor sunscreen) can greatly reduce the risk of cancer.

Her dynamic presentation was well-received by the more than 100 attendees, which included residents and employees of the home. The doctor was able to draw on her experience with cancer and the AECC to answer the many questions posed at the end of the session.
