Podology and the elderly, the focus of Friday's lecture

FCC's volunteer programme invited Rubén Sánchez Gómez, professor at Alfonso X El Sabio University and podologist at the CEMTRO Clinic, to talk about the importance of proper foot care later in life as part of the lecture series at the Nuestra Casa Retirement Home in Collado Villalba, Madrid, an initiative of the Esther Koplowitz Foundation.

Professor Sánchez Gómez highlighted the preventive aspects of podology in terms of caring for and healing foot-related issues. His presentation included an overview of foot illnesses, including abnormal toenail growth, athlete's foot, calluses, cracks, and bunions.

The professor also talked about surgery for bunions and other foot ailments, and offered residents basic advice on ensuring good foot care in this stage of their lives. His presentation was followed by a Q&A period, during which the residents posed questions and concerns to the doctor.

As the lecture coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Javier López-Galiacho, FCC's Head of Corporate Responsibility presented Professor Sánchez Gómez with an artistic gift made by the Down Syndrome Foundation and its special employment centre for FCC's volunteer programme. Going forward, every speaker in the Friday lecture series will receive a gift.
