FCC volunteers celebrate Christmas in Madrid
The FCC volunteers in Madrid celebrated Christmas with the residents of the Nuestra Casa retirement home in Collado Villalba; the home was built and outfitted thanks to the generosity of Esther Koplowitz, whose daughters Esther and Alicia attended the celebration.
Once again, entertainment for the party was provided by the Aurora Labella and Trinidad Artiguez dance troupe. The performance, which was greeted with enthusiasm by the more than 100 residents in attendance, was given by an extensive cast of children and teenagers studying Spanish dance who generously gave their free time for the event.
Before the performance, the FCC Volunteers presented the choreographers, Aurora Labella and Trinidad Artiguez, with the now classic gift: a painting from the Fundación Síndrome de Down's special employment centre.
The performance, which was a resounding success, was followed by a meal for volunteers, residents and their families courtesy of the Esther Koplowitz Foundation.
For the last three years, personnel from FCC's Construction, Services, Energy, Cement and Corporate divisions have worked as volunteers, providing support to the over 150 residents at the Nuestra Casa retirement home in Collado Villalba, Madrid, in the form of craft workshops, companionship and events such as the successful Friday lecture series. FCC personnel also work as volunteers at the retirement homes in Valencia and Barcelona. As a result of this volunteer program, FCC received the Ciudadanos award this year.
