Teresa Fernández de la Vega gives 80th Friday lecture
Teresa Fernández de la Vega took part in the Friday lecture series at Nuestra Casa retirement home in Collado Villalba (Madrid); this activity, now in its third year, is organised jointly by the FCC Volunteer programme and the Esther Koplowitz Foundation.
Including the events at the Esther Koplowitz Foundation's second residence, in Barcelona, Fernández de la Vega was the eightieth lecturer in less than three years.
She started by expressing her gratitude to the Foundation and to FCC Volunteers for inviting her to speak, and to the Esther Koplowitz Foundation for its dedication to helping those most in need.
Then she went on to speak about the importance of the elderly in social progress and the role of women in society. Along those lines, she highlighted her work as head of the Women for Africa Foundation, a collective and a continent which she greatly admires. "Women are the mainstay of the next emerging continent: Africa", she said.
The event was attended by senior executives of FCC as well as members of its Board of Directors, including Esther and Alicia Alcocer, Rafael Montes, Felipe B Garcia and Antonio Pérez Colmenero, who came out to celebrate the 80th edition of the series and to show their support for Fernández de la Vega, former First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain.
Following her presentation, the volunteers thanked her with a bouquet of flowers and a painting made by people with Down Syndrome, from Arte Down.
