FCC workers donate 5,400 euro from wage increase to help a sick child
Employees of FCC's Aguacate waste management centre in Madrid have donated one year's entire raise under the current wage agreement to Juanma, a 6-year-old boy suffering from Alexander Syndrome, a rare degenerative disease.
The donation was presented yesterday at the FSP-UGT headquarter offices. The following people attended on behalf of the workers: Fernando Sánchez, General Secretary of FSP-UGT in Madrid; Moisés Torres, Secretary of the Community Services Sector; José Ignacio López, Chairman of the Works Committee and several members of that committee. They presented 5,400 euro (equivalent to their 0.5% wage increase) to Natalia Losa Rodríguez and Javier Pérez Ávila, who attended the event on behalf of Juanma's parents.
Juanma lives in Almería and suffers from a rare type of leukodystrophy called Alexander Syndrome, of which there are only three cases in Spain. His parents were unable to attend the event because of Juanma's illness.
The workers at FCC's Aguacate waste treatment centre responded to the request for help from Juanma's parents by donating their entire wage increase for one year, attained under the last collective agreement negotiations, to help Juanma receive the treatment he needs.
