An FCC-constructed building; the first Spanish work project awarded with the LEED silver certification for sustainability
The TIER IV Data Processing Centre in Murcia, constructed in its entirety by FCC Industrial, has obtained the LEED silver certification for sustainability. This certification, developed by the (US Green Building Council), awards excellence in environmental and energy efficiency.
The LEED silver certification is the highest level ever obtained by a Spanish building. It recognises that the FCC-led project for the Murcia Data Centre complies with a set of standards on the use of strategies geared towards sustainability, both in the construction process as well as in the building commissioning and its subsequent operation.
The facilities incorporate a modular design of two bodies and an additional unit where the IT department of El Corte Inglés and the IT company Kio Networks will be based. For this architectural complex, FCC Industrial implemented a project with a focus on energy efficiency, the use of alternative energy , the improvement of indoor environmental quality, efficient water consumption, sustainable development of spaces separate from the plot and the selection of materials. The Company also created a cooling system in the IT suites to ensure maximum energy saving.
The Centre has 99.995% accessibility, in other words, it will vary rarely be subject to interruptions, making it one of the most secure buildings insofar as data processing is concerned. With this project, which had an implementation budget of € 3 million and a record deadline for completion of six months, the Citizen Services Group endorses its commitment to R&D&I infrastructure.
LEED is a certification system of sustainable buildings, developed by the US Green Building Council. It was set up in 1998 and is used in several countries to assess the environmental behaviour predicted for a building throughout its life cycle, subject to the most demanding environmental standards worldwide. The final assessment is granted by the US Green Building Council, USGBC); a non-profit organisation that promotes the implementation of excellence practices in sustainable construction.
