Winners announced in the 3rd Edition of the FCC Workplace Health and Safety Awards
The panel of judges in the 3rd Edition of the FCC Workplace Health and Safety Awards have announced the winners in the three categories: Workplace Safety, Workplace Health, and Personal Achievement.
The awards recognise exceptional work by people who commit and play a significant role in enhancing the lives of the people who work at FCC and in the communities where the Company operates, through workplace safety, health and well-being.
The judging panel, comprising Santiago Lafuente Pérez-Lucas, Manager of FCC Aqualia Spain; Jordi Payet Pérez, General Manager of FCC Environment; Santiago Farré Dot, Manager-Northern Zone at FCC Construction; Ana Benita Aramendía, FCC Group Corporate Manager of Legal Affairs, Labour Relations and Health and Safety; Elena Blasco Martín, Secretary for Workplace Health and the Environment at the CCOO union; Gustavo Vargas Sánchez, General Secretary of the FITAG – UGT union; Francisco Marqués Marqués, Technical Deputy Director of Spain's National Institute for Workplace Health and Safety (INSHT); and Antonio Guzmán Córdoba, Manager for Health Promotion at the Mapfre Foundation, granted the awards to the following candidates:
Workplace Safety Award
This award recognises commitment and proven effectiveness in managing workplace risks and improving health and safety; specifically: milestones, processes implemented, innovative initiatives and any other action that helps control risks and greatly improves safety conditions.
The winners in this category are:
Technical measures/initiatives:
FCC Environment for: The Mobile Plant Pedestrian System (PWS).
Management strategy:
FCC Aqualia for: Project to improve safety culture.
Workplace Health Award
Recognition of work done to promote healthy values, habits and practices, to improve people's health and encourage healthy lifestyles, and innovations in favour of a healthier workplace.
The winners in this category are:
Andalucía II Environment, for: Healthy Company.
Aragon Environment, for: Promotion of cardiovascular health and road safety.
Personal achievement award
Recognition of people who stand out for promoting or developing activities and services related to workplace safety and health.
The winners are:
Manuel Gonzalo Mateos Pavón, manager - Section A, Line 2 of Panama Metro.
Javier Rubio Durán, Manager FCC Aqualia Almeria.
Marta Costa, industrial manager at Ecodeal (FCC Ámbito).
Pablo Fuentes Marciel, Manager FCC Environment Ávila.
All business and production units, offices, contracts and workplaces anywhere that FCC operates are eligible as candidates; the prizes seek to encourage and recognise work and dedication in the area of workplace health and safety, shine a light on actions and results (rewarding a job well done) and disseminate, share and replicate best practices.
Participation increased significantly in this third edition of the awards. A total of 26 candidates were nominated: 16 in Spain, 4 in the UK, 2 in Panama, 1 in Portugal and 1 in Finland. All the candidates were of a very high quality, which made it very difficult for the panel to choose the winners.
