FCC included in the directory of best CSR practices in Latin America

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has selected various CSR projects which are being carried out by the FCC Group in Latin America to be included in the directory entitled "Las empresas españolas crean valor. Responsabilidad Social Corporativa en Iberoamérica”(Spanish companies create value. Corporate Social Responsibility in Latin America). This document, which aims to strengthen the Spanish brand in Latin America, was presented on 21 September in the Casa de América by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, who was accompanied by the Minister of Labour, Fátima Báñez.

FCC has made contributions to the directory edition with various social responsibility actions which are being implemented by the group in Latin America.

Our Group has showcased several projects which were completed in Panama, such as the La Valdeza quarry, where FCC has defined a CSR plan for reforestation, the monitoring of lorry traffic, and noise control during hours of rest.

It is also important to mention the project entitled Restauración y protección Camino de Cruces (Restoration and protection of Camino de Cruces). It is a project which aims to restore this historic route that was used in the 16th and 17th centuries to transport gold and silver, given the geopolitical and cultural significance it has to protect the cultural heritage of Panama. The Hospital Complex project was to be built on a part of this section, therefore proposals were put forward at the start of works to amend, using the necessary means, the plans in order to avoid tampering with the historic stretch and to protect and safeguard the cobbled tracks.

The Ministry has also acknowledged another significant CSR project being carried out by FCC in this country, Mi Escuela Primero (My School First). The program involved remodelling and improving the Instituto Rubiano through a FCC investment of three million euros, thereby facilitating and boosting high school diplomas in science, information technology and humanities.

The Ministry has also selected the biodiversity protection project which is being led by FCC on works on the Port of Açu in Brazil. This project entails protecting the reproduction cycle of the Cabezuda sea turtle, given that the works are located in a crucial area for this endangered species.

Lastly, the directory of best CSR practices in Latin America has featured FCC for the project underway in Colombia entitled 'Sembrando agua recogemos vida' (Safeguarding water reclaims life). Raising awareness among the population of the importance of conserving the watersheds is fundamental, not only to guarantee a water source but also to develop responsibility of the environment in order to prevent its deterioration.
