FCC's volunteer programme distinguished at the 15th Codespa Awards
FCC's volunteer programme was a finalist in the Corporate Volunteering category of the 15th Codespa Awards, organized by the Codespa Foundation. The event was chaired by Felipe de Borbón, Prince of Asturias, who is President of the Codespa Foundation. Journalist Juan Andrés Siles (Enfermería TV), Acciona, and Grupo Vips volunteer programme took home awards in the Journalism for Development, Solidarity-based Company, and Corporate Volunteering categories.
The Codespa awards recognise commitments by companies, employees and journalists to developing countries. The Codespa Foundation has recognised FCC's volunteer programme which, in cooperation with the Esther Koplowitz Foundation, seeks to create a solidarity network comprising employees and their friends and family who contribute their enthusiasm, experience and time to improving the living standards and well-being of disadvantaged groups.
FCC employees volunteer at the Esther Koplowitz Foundation's retirement homes in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, which serve the needy. The volunteers' main activities include providing company and taking walks with the residents, as well as organising workshops, celebrations and seminars.
During his speech, HRH the Prince of Asturias noted that "the evolution of these awards reflects how society has progressed and the growing number of people who are joining the fight against poverty." Felipe de Borbón paid tribute to all of the institutions, companies, media and citizens that participate in development aid projects. He also underlined his support for the creation of alliances: "by joining forces, we can make much more progress towards our common goal: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger worldwide as soon as possible."
