President of Valencia Regional Government inaugurates Villena termosolar plant

Alberto Fabra, President of Valencia Regional Government, and Juan Béjar, Vice-Chairman and CEO of FCC, inaugurated the solar thermal plant in Villena (Alicante) today. This is the only plant of its kind in the Valencia region and the most modern of the 60 built in Spain to date. The plant, which cost 280 million euro, was built by the Termosolar Villena joint venture, comprising FCC Industrial and Seridom.

The facility, which spans 150 hectares (equivalent to 185 football pitches), is equipped with 141,200 mirrors. It has a capacity of 49.9MW, enough to meet the needs of the 350,000 people of Villena.

Construction of the plant, which commenced in July 2010 and was completed ahead of schedule, created over 500 temporary jobs. Management and maintenance of the plant created 35 direct and 45 indirect jobs.

Other attendees at the inauguration included Eduardo González, Chairman of FCC Aqualia and also the Energy area (recently sold to Plenium Partners); the FCC Industrial team which oversaw construction of the plant, and several officials from the Valencia regional government and Villena city government.
