FCC Medio Ambiente signs its first Equality Plan with trade unions CCOO and UGT

This Equality Plan covers a set of measures that will help achieve, within the scope of the company for which it was drawn up, the aims of equal treatment and equal opportunities for men and women and to abolish any signs of gender-based discrimination.

On behalf of the company, the agreement was signed by the Managing Director of the National Environment Division of FCC, Jordi Payey Pérez; meanwhile signing on behalf of the General Workers' Union were Julio Lacuerda Castelló, Secretary-General of the Federation of Public Service; Rosa Guerra Curado, Women and Equality Manager of the same federation; José Miguel Villa Antoñana, Secretary General of the Federation of Services and Rosa Sampedro Rodríguez, Manager of the Cleaning and Citizen Services Sector of the same federation. Signing on behalf of the Workers' Commission were Vicente Sánchez Jiménez, Secretary-General of the Construction and Services Federation; and María Pilar Expósito Cortés, Secretary of Employment and Training for the same federation.

By implementing this plan FCC Medio Ambiente, S.A. wishes to help raise awareness of, safeguard and promote the individual rights of all of its employees. In particular, it protects the dignity of individuals within the scope of the company, defining wholesome standards of conduct and eliminating behaviour that may be deemed as illegitimate interference in the personal privacy or which violates the dignity of individuals.

The specific aims of the Equality Plan are:

  • To promote and effectively apply the principle of equality between men and women, guaranteeing the same earning and professional progression opportunities at all levels within the workplace.
  • To improve the balance of gender distribution within the Plan's scope of application.
  • To promote and enhance the possibilities of women securing executive positions, helping to diminish inequalities and imbalances which, while being of historic, cultural, social or family origin, may occur within the scope of FCC Medio Ambiente, S.A.
  • To prevent gender-based discrimination in the workplace, defining a protocol of action for such incidents.
  • To reinforce the sustainability and corporate social responsibility commitment undertaken by the Group with the aim of improving the quality of life of employees and their families, as well as to promote the principle of equal opportunities
  • To define principles to exclude any measures that may have a negative impact on the harmony of professional life with the family and personal life of employees of FCC Medio Ambiente, S.A.

In order to achieve these aims the company has covered a set of areas for action which focus on the following: access to employment, promotion, training, salary, conciliation, preventive and corrective measures for incidents of discrimination, prevention of harassment on grounds of sex, communication and protection of employees who are victims of gender-based violence.

The company has also set out specific milestones and targets to reach while the Plan remains in force, initially envisaged until 31 December 2019, alongside a Steering Committee which is responsible for ensuring effectiveness of the Plan's integral measures.

This Equality Plan is the third to have been signed by the Environmental Services Division, after Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. and Servicios Especiales de Limpieza, S.A. signed plans in 2014 and 2015 respectively. As such, the group is able to address individual circumstances of different sectors of activity, as well as the composition of staff and other special characteristics which, for each company, are identified through various situation analyses.
