Sylvain Cortes, Director of the Wastes Handling Department, represented FCC on the ‘Packaging in the 2020 horizon’ panel where he presented the materials recovery facility that FCC inaugurated at the beginning of the year in Dallas (Texas, USA) and that serves the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with more than seven million inhabitants. The plant has the most modern sorting technologies such as artificial vision and optical and gravimetrical separators with a handling capacity of 140,000 tonnes per year of mixed or single stream recyclable materials, an alternative focus on the handling of recyclables in cities with a view to reaching the recycling objectives set for 2020.

The circular economy is suggested as one of the viable solutions in the fight against climate change to limit the increase of global temperature to between 1.5° and 2° C by the end of the century. It is estimated that around 50% of greenhouse gas emissions are associated with the consumption of raw materials.
