The Bolaños Tunnels works on the Madrid-Galicia High-Speed line has been selected for the International Project of the Year and the Award for Technical Excellence categories in the prestigious Ground Engineering Awards 2017.

The Bolaños Tunnels works (Madrid-Galicia High Speed Line), an FCC Construcción project, shortlisted for the Ground Engineering Awards 2017

The announcement was made on 28 February on the website of the awards organisation committee. The winners will be announced in London on 5 July.

FCC Construcción continues to work on the current project following the tunnel boring work which took place in December.

The works entail the construction of two parallel single-track tunnels, each 6.7 kilometres long, on the Madrid-Galicia High-Speed Line. FCC Construcción has built over 99 kilometres of the Atlantic Axis, undertaking projects as unique as the Bolaños Tunnel or the 8.5 km Vigo–Das Maceiras Tunnel.

FCC has undertaken over 700 kilometres of high speed line, accounting for 32% of the total high-speed lines constructed in Spain.
